Kayak Tour on Serrano River, Patagonia, Chile
Kayaking Torres del Paine & Bernardo O'Higgins National Parks, Patagonia - 2 days, 1 night
Overview
Kayak through Torres del Paine and Bernardo O'Higgins National Parks.
On this 2-day kayaking tour, paddle down Serrano River. Río Serrano, as it is called in Spanish, is the outflow of pretty much all water of Torres del Paine National Park, including two massive glaciers: Grey and Tyndall, and the enormous Del Toro Lake (Lago del Toro).
This Patagonia Kayak Adventure takes you though remote, unspoiled nature and almost completely uninhabited wilderness.
For a 3-day version of this kayak tour, which adds a great side trip up and down the quietly flowing Tyndall River and with that get to see the remote and breathtaking Tyndall Glacier and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field from up close. Take a look at our other kayak tour on Serrano River.
This kayak tour is possible for beginners.
This kayak tour is a great extension to our trekking tours in Torres del Paine!

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Puerto Natales - Serrano River - Pekín Guerrero Ranch
Early morning, begin this Patagonia Kayak Adventure with a private transfer from Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine National Park and Serrano River (about 1.5 hours). Load your kayaks with your local kayak guide and begin paddling down Río Serrano. After about 2 hours, reach Serrano waterfall. Here you will carry the kayaks about 200 meters around the waterfall. Trying to master the waterfall by kayak would probably not be a good idea... ;-) Continue kayaking the Serrano River to the Pekín Guerrero Ranch. Pekín Guerrero is a Patagonian pioneer, who settled in this remote wilderness some 30 years ago and has been living here ever since in almost complete isolation with his wife, Matilda. Spend the night camping at Pekín Guerrero's ranch.

Day 2: Serrano River - Serrano Glacier - Última Esperanza Sound - Puerto Natales
After breaking down camp and packing all equipment into the kayaks, continue kayaking Serrano River downstream. Surrounded by beautiful Lenga and Cypress forests and snow-capped mountains, reach the confluence of Río Serrano, where the river flows into Última Esperanza Sound. In 1558,
this Chilean fjord was the "last hope" for Juan Ladrillero's expedition
to find the entrance of the Strait of Magellan ("última esperanza" means
"last hope"). Here, the heavily glaciated Monte Balmaceda stands 2,035 m/ 6,677 ft
tall above the fjord and sends down the glaciers Balmaceda and Serrano. Join your guide for an easy walk of about 20 minutes one way, along a glacial lake to the front of Serrano Glacier. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip through the scenic Patagonian landscape and sail back to Puerto Natales in a bigger boat, where you will arrive at about 5:30 p.m.
